The all-new Mazda CX-60 will be offered with four-cylinder petrol power in Australia at launch, with the plug-in hybrid set to follow.

The CX-60 will launch in Australia with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 138kW of power and 250Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This drivetrain will be offered ahead of the flagship model, which is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain making total system outputs of 241kW of power and 500Nm of torque, and using a 17.8kWh lithium-ion battery.

While the launch order for these two drivetrains has been confirmed, Mazda Australia is yet to decide on whether it takes the higher output six-cylinder petrol and diesel currently in the works.

    The Skyactiv-D produces 170kW between 4000 and 4200rpm and 500Nm between 1500 and 3000rpm.

The e-Skyactiv D, which includes a 48V mild-hybrid system, pumps out even more power and torque: 187kW at 3750rpm and 550Nm between 1500 and 2400rpm.

There’s also a 3.0-litre inline-six cylinder petrol engine with outputs that have yet to be confirmed.

With the CX-60 taking aim at the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5, it’s likely Mazda Australia will try and include the higher output diesel and petrol drivetrains in the future product mix.

Both diesel variants are due to enter production in 2022, while the petrol isn’t expected to make it into production until 2023 at the earliest.

What will land here in Australia? That part is unclear, but according to a Mazda Australia spokesperson, “there’s a very comprehensive line up of powertrains that we will offer”, which is good news to us.
