The Genesis Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 have received five-star ratings from ANCAP, matching their combustion-powered counterparts.

Additional destructive crash testing was undertaken, including frontal offset and oblique pole tests, to confirm how their high-voltage batteries fared and to determine if their overall safety performance was comparable to combustion-powered GV70 and G80 models.

ANCAP says the additional tests did demonstrate comparable performance, though it noted an issue in post-crash assessment of the Electrified G80 – specifically, that the automatic door locking function didn’t release following the frontal offset crash test.

Genesis is undertaking a fix for this issue.

The Electrified G80’s five-star rating, which also applies to turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder variants, is broken down into scores of 91 per cent for adult occupant protection, 86 per cent for child occupant protection, 77 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 80 per cent for safety assist.

Variants with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 remain unrated.

The Electrified GV70’s five-star rating, which also applies to variants with the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engines, is broken down into scores of 89 per cent for adult occupant protection, 89 per cent for child occupant protection, 64 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 87 per cent for safety assist.

As with the G80, variants with the twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 remain unrated.

Five-star ratings for the two electric models have a 2021 datestamp like the combustion-powered variants.

Standard safety equipment on both the Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 includes:

    • Adaptive cruise control with stop/go
    • Blind-spot assist
    • Lane-keep assist
    • Lane Following Assist (lane centring)
    • Rear cross-traffic assist
    • Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse
    • Safe exit assist
    • Driver attention warning
    • Leading vehicle departure alert
    • Intelligent speed limit assist
    • Surround-view camera
    • Front and rear parking sensors

There’s also an autonomous emergency braking system, which includes:

    • Pedestrian and cyclist detection
    • Evasive steering assist
    • Junction turning/crossing support
    • Lane-change oncoming/side support
    • Reverse parking

“With these new results, there are now over 100 battery electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen models rated by ANCAP which hold a five-star ANCAP safety rating – providing plenty of choice to consumers across a range of vehicle brands, models and price-points,” said ANCAP chief executive officer Carla Hoorweg.
