Kia is recalling over 7000 vehicles across its Niro, Sportage and Seltos lines as they mightn’t warn drivers a seatbelt is unbuckled in the cabin.
“Due to a software issue, the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual seat belt warning as required by the Australian Design Rules (ADR) 04/06,” the company says in its recall notice.
“If the driver is not made aware of an unfastened seatbelt, there is an increased risk of injury or death in case the vehicle is involved in an accident.
“The vehicle is not compliant with Australian Design Rule 04/06.”
- A total of 7163 vehicles are affected from 2022 to 2023

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to book an appointment at a Kia dealership to have an instrument cluster software update carried out, free of charge.
