The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is finally making its way to customers.
Mercedes-AMG took to Twitter to share the delivery of its new Formula 1-style hypercar.
The brand has previously confirmed it will produce only 275 examples, each costing AU$3.9 million.
Originally meant for a 2019 launch, the One was delayed as Mercedes-AMG encountered hurdles adapting its F1-derived powertrain for public road use while meeting ever-tightening emissions standards.
The Mercedes-AMG One is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid V6 engine that produces 422kW of power and four electric motors that produce 450kW, with an 8.4kWh battery pack.
One of these electric motors is an F1-style MGU-K mounted to the crankshaft, two more are mounted to the front axle, and the last is mounted to the turbocharger to slash lag.
Total system output is 782kW of power, with a top speed electronically limited to 352km/h.
Mercedes-AMG claims One can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds and 0-300km/h in 15.6 seconds.
It’s already broken the Nurburgring record for road-legal production vehicles, posting a time of 6:35.183 min around the 20.832 kilometre track.
DTM driver Maro Engel beat the record (posted by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR in 2021) by 8.0 seconds.
The hypercar is a joint effort with Mercedes-AMG High-Performance Powertrains (HPP) – the company responsible for Formula 1 engines for the Mercedes-AMG team – and Canadian production partner Multimatic.
Its specialised UK production facility features 16 different assembly and testing stations.
A number of “sub-systems” in the Mercedes-AMG are taken through a process of pre-assembly, testing, then disassembling, before finally being installed into the One.
Once the hypercar has been given the tick of approval in “final compliance testing” by a factory test driver at a proving ground it receives “appropriate transport protection” in a closed truck and is transported to Mercedes-AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany for the handover.
