    Cadillac

Dating back to 1902, Cadillac is one of the world's oldest carmakers and has been owned by General Motors since 1909. America's most famous luxury auto brand has had a fleeting presence in Australia since then and almost came here officially around 15 years ago, before its local launch was cancelled at the 11th hour.

GM Australia officially announced the launch of the second-generation CTS sedan in 2007 and obtained local certification for its sale, before multiple dealers signed up to represent the brand that would have been sold alongside the Hummer and Saab brands.

GM even imported several dozen CTS sedans, but diverted them to New Zealand after the company cancelled plans to launch Cadillac in January 2009, just weeks before they were due to go on sale.

GM is now launching Cadillac again in Australia, where it will be an EV-only brand (as it will be globally from 2030) led by the Lyriq large electric SUV released in late 2024. Beyond the Lyriq, Cadillac Australia could also eventually offer three other electric SUVs including the slightly smaller Optiq, the larger Vistiq seven-seater and the flagship Escalade iQ.
