Our epic drag racing series is back in action! You’re going to see some of the world’s most impressive supercars go head-to-head in drag races across the quarter mile at our regional airport base in Wyalkatchem, Western Australia.

We need to give a massive shout out to our mates at Caltex for helping us cover the cost of putting this event on. It’s an incredibly expensive undertaking and none of this would be possible without their support.

The cars we are running today are powered by Premium 98 Caltex with Techron, Caltex with Techron has been scientifically proven to help clean and protect engines. A clean engine helps maximise power and acceleration providing better fuel economy, reliable performance and delivering a smooth drive. Head to Caltex.com/au for more information.

    The cars

This is a bloody exciting drag race. We’ve pitted one of the craziest hypercars on the market, the McLaren Senna, up against a more ‘attainable’ primarily road going McLaren in the 765LT to figure out which is quicker.

They share a very similar engine and while the Senna is built almost entirely out of carbon, it weighs around 30kg less than the 765LT. But we reckon the Senna will be slowed down by the drag added by its giant wing.

    McLaren Senna

The Senna is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 588kW of power and 800Nm of torque. It uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends torque through the rear axle.

It has a top speed of 335km/h, which is just nuts! While the official 0-100km/h time is 2.8 seconds, it’ll struggle to get traction on our unprepped airport runway surface.

    McLaren 765LT

Featuring a similar top speed of 330km/h, the 765LT uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 563kW of power and 800Nm of torque. It also features a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with launch control and also sends torque through the rear axle.

It has an identical claimed 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds too, so this is going to be close!

The results speak for themselves. It was SO close, but it looks like that extra drag on the Senna slowed it down slightly. Still an incredibly fast result, but shows you how much power both of these cars have.

Keep in mind as well that it’s an unprepped surface, which makes it even harder for high horsepower cars to get off the line and get traction.
