The Genesis brand launched here with two sedans, in a market that has been cooling to that body style.
Come October 2020, however, Hyundai’s luxury arm will finally be able to tap into the thriving SUV market with its first SUV, the GV80.
It’ll be priced from $90,600 before on-road costs, undercutting the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE while offering more power and equipment.
All three global powertrains will be offered locally, with the GV80 employing a local suspension tune for this all-new platform.
MORE: 2021 Genesis GV80 launch review
The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque, and is available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The RWD model is the only GV80 variant not to have a third row of seating.
While similarly-priced X5s and GLEs have a four-cylinder turbo-diesel, the GV80 uses a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-diesel producing 204kW of power and 588Nm of torque.
The range-topping engine is a turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6 with 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque.
All GV80 models use an eight-speed automatic transmission, though the 3.0D and 3.5T also feature an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential and adaptive suspension.
There’s a terrain and drive mode system with Eco, Comfort, Sport and Custom mades for driving on the bitumen and Snow, Mud and Sand modes for heading off of it.
No GV80 is wanting for features, with standard kit including heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and a 21-speaker Harman sound system. You can view the full features list below.
A $10,000 Luxury Package is available on all variants, adding Nappa leather upholstery, heated, ventilated and power-adjustable second-row seats, and Hyundai’s new remote parking functionality.
