The new Lexus IS will be revealed in New York at 9am tomorrow, Melbourne time, but it appears to have leaked early.
These images, posted on Allcarnews, definitely line up with the officially-provided teaser images. The front end is an evolution of the current model, with a more aggressive grille and headlights more in keeping with the latest range of Lexus SUVs.
The car pictured appears to be an F Sport model, which suggests a less aggressive snout could be offered.
The IS reveal was originally scheduled for June 9 in the USA, but was placed on hold due to the racial inequality protests held after the death of George Floyd at the hands of police.
Reports have indicated the 2021 IS will use an updated version of its existing rear- and all-wheel drive platform, rather than shifting to one of Toyota’s latest-generation rear-wheel drive TNGA architectures.
In this scenario, the 2021 model will carry over today’s drivetrains, which include the 164kW 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid (IS300h), 180kW 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder (IS300), and 232kW 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 (IS350).
The current-generation Lexus IS debuted in 2013, and was given a mid-life facelift in 2016.
Images of the cabin also appear evolutionary, with the same basic architecture as the current model. The addition of Apple CarPlay is in keeping with the wider Lexus range, but changes to the steering wheel and digital instruments seem minor.
