2021 Mazda BT-50 Single Cab and Freestyle Cab officially revealed

The rest of the 2021 Mazda BT-50 range has been revealed, with the Single Cab and Freestyle Cab touching down November 1.

Prices start at $36,550 before on-road costs, though Mazda is offering deals for eligible ABN holders.

The two body styles are available only in base XT trim and only as cab-chassis models, though they’re available with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

The 4×2 is available only with a six-speed automatic transmission while the 4×4 offers a choice of the auto or a six-speed manual.

The outgoing BT-50 offered the Freestyle Cab with a ute body and in mid-spec XTR trim, while the 2021 model’s twin – the Isuzu D-Max – similarly offers its Space Cab with a ute body and in a higher trim.

Unlike the previous generation of BT-50, there’s no smaller base engine. That means all BT-50 models are powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

Standard equipment on all Single Cab and Freestyle Cab models includes LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Automatic models also receive adaptive cruise control, while all models get carpeted floors.

The BT-50’s full suite of active safety technology is available on the Single and Freestyle Cab models.

This includes autonomous emergency braking with forward-collision warning, as well as blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert, plus lane-keeping assist on automatic models.

The dual-cab BT-50’s five-star ANCAP safety rating also applies to its two-door siblings.

Single Cab and Freestyle Cab models have a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg and 235mm of ground clearance.

They boast a 29.6 degree approach angle, a 23.9 degree rampover angle, and can wade 800mm deep. Departure angles are 24.6 degrees for the Single Cabs and 25.3 degrees for the Freestyle Cabs.

Payload ranges between 1120kg for the 4×2 Freestyle Cab to 1186 for the 4×4 Single Cab.

Mazda charges $2470 to fit a tray to the Single Cab and $2300 to fit one for a Freestyle Cab.

All BT-50 models are covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty with free roadside assist.

Service intervals are set at 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first, though Mazda hasn’t confirmed service prices yet.
