The redesigned Audi A3 packs a posher new interior, more standard equipment and a new base engine.
The new Audi A3 will arrive in Australia in early 2022 after a series of delays.
UPDATE, 11/02/2022 –Audi Australia has announced price increases across most of its models. We’ve updated this article with the new pricing.
Prices now start at $46,900 before on-road costs for the Sportback 35 TFSI, rising to $56,000 before on-roads for the A3 Sedan 40 TFSI quattro S line.
That means the base price has risen by $6200 (including the $600 increase announced in February), though the priciest sedan is up by only $1600 compared to the top-spec last-generation sedan.
There’s additional standard equipment however, with all models getting standard semi-autonomous parking assist and lane-keep assist.
The S3, for which pricing has previously been announced, rings up at $70,700 and $73,200 before on-roads for the Sportback and Sedan, respectively. Those are increases of $6500 and $7400.
While the new A3’s bolder exterior styling is evolutionary, the interior has been dramatically overhauled.
A larger 10.1-inch infotainment system with touch functionality is standard, while there’s a stubby shift-by-wire gear selector and a more angular look overall.
The base 35 TFSI uses a new turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with both cylinder deactivation and a 48V mild-hybrid system, which results in a fuel economy saving of 0.1L/100km on the combined cycle in both body styles.
Power and torque, however, is unchanged from last year’s 1.4-litre at 110kW and 250Nm. The 40 TFSI quattro models also continue to put out 140kW and 320Nm from a 2.0-litre turbo.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
The 2022 Audi A3 is available with a choice of two engines and drive layouts.
