Haval has given its big off-road SUV a makeover for 2022 in China.
The 2022 Haval H9 has been revealed at the Chengdu motor show, with an aggressive new look and a more upmarket interior than the car currently on sale in Australia.
Haval has confirmed the updated car revealed in China isn’t coming to Australia, and the H9 will instead carry on unchanged locally.
That will put us two facelifts behind the Chinese-market version.
The changes to the H9 are most pronounced at the front, where the current grille and its horizontal bars have been replaced with an aggressive, vertically-oriented design.
There are also new headlights compared to the car on offer in Australia, and a revised front bumper.
The changes are more subtle down back, where there’s tweaked detailing in the lights and bumpers, along with the Haval name spelled out across the spare wheel.
Inside, the materials look to have been updated compared to what’s on offer in Australia, while the infotainment screen has grown for 2022.
It’s not clear what size the new display is, but the air vents have been moved to accomodate it. The current car has an 8.0-inch screen. There’s also what looks like a digital instrument cluster.
The Haval H9 is available with just one powertrain in Australia at the moment, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque.
It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF.
In Australia, the current H9 goes head-to-head with the LDV D90 and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
With 322 sold to the end of July, the H9 is 478 sales behind the D90 in the sales race.
Sales have grown almost 90 per cent compared to the same point in 2020, however.
