The Mazda 2 has received some minor tweaks and a new trim level as part of its 2022 model year update.
UPDATE, 09/05/2022 – Mazda Australia increased the before on-road asking price for the 2 by $200 as part of a range-wide price increase in April 2022.
A Mazda Australia spokesperson said this price increase is due to supply chain constraints, as well as production costs. There have been no specification changes.
The Mazda 2 range now starts at $21,390 before on-road costs for the G15 Pure manual hatch, and extends to $26,490 for the G15 GT hatch and sedan.
Mazda first bumped prices up by $200 across the entire range in November 2021, and again by $100 on the G15 Evolve and G15 GT in February 2022.
Now standard across the range are rear seat-belt reminders to conform with the latest Australian Design Rule (ADR) regulations, just like its high-riding Mazda CX-3 sibling. Previously, there were only reminders for the front seats.
There’s a new G15 Pure SP trim level that boasts some minor exterior and interior changes. It’s exclusive to the hatchback and is only available with a six-speed automatic.
Mazda has also cut the G15 Pure manual sedan from the range for the 2022 model year, leaving only the G15 Pure hatch with the option of a manual. The manual only accounts for around one per cent of total Mazda 2 sales.
There’s a new paint colour, Platinum Quartz Metallic, that’s available across the range.
Polymetal Grey, once reserved exclusively for the hatchback, is now available on the sedan variant as well.
According to VFACTS, Mazda sold 3839 examples of the 2 hatchback and sedan from January to October 2021.
Over the same period it was outsold by the MG 3 (11,545), Kia Rio (4918), Volkswagen Polo (4135) and the Toyota Yaris (4106).
With the discontinuation of the Holden Barina, Honda City and Hyundai Accent, the Mazda 2 is now the only light car to offer a sedan body in its class.
All prices exclude on-road costs
