Prices for the Mercedes-Benz Vito are up for 2022, but there’s a new powertrain for most models.
All Vito 116 and 119 models use a new 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, referred to as OM 654, mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission
It replaces the OM 651 turbo-diesel 2.0-litre four, which was mated with a seven-speed automatic.
Mercedes-Benz says the change takes effect for all vehicles produced in March 2022 onwards, and the first vehicles should arrive for sale in May 2022.
Outputs are unchanged – 120kW of power and 380Nm of torque in Vito 116 models, and 140kW and 440Nm in Vito 119 variants.
All 116 and 119 models receive a price increase of between $3688 and $4233, but Mercedes-Benz has included additional equipment.
This includes tinted windows, front ‘Comfort seats’, all-season rubber floor mats, and adaptive cruise control.
Mercedes-Benz says the new nine-speed has a wider ratio spread “which can result in improved drive quality and fuel efficiency”, though local fuel economy figures haven’t been made available.
The company says the new engine includes a diesel particulate filter (DPF) closer to the engine block, allowing it to reach its optimum operating temperature quicker, while noise and vibration have been reduced.
The entry-level, front-wheel drive Vito 111, for which prices are also up, continues with its OM 622 1.6-litre turbo-diesel four, producing 84kW and 270Nm and mated with a six-speed manual.
The range continues to comprise van and five-seat Crew Cab variants. The related Valente people mover has been renamed Vito Tourer.
In the second half of 2022, the Vito range will gain a new electric variant called the eVito.
Likewise, Mercedes-Benz Vans portfolio will grow to include corresponding electric passenger vans: the eVito Tourer and the EQV.
