The 2024 Isuzu MU-X lineup has expanded to now include nine variants, thanks to the addition of a smaller, more efficient turbo-diesel engine – but the existing 3.0-litre powertrain has been hit with a price increase.
Isuzu announced its intentions to add the ‘RZ4E-TC’ 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine from the D-Max ute to the MU-X late last year, and has now detailed the three variants it will be available in.
Priced from $47,400 before on-road costs, the least expensive Isuzu MU-X is now the 4×2 LS-M powered by the 1.9-litre engine. It’s $2000 cheaper than the same variant with a 3.0-litre engine, which has undergone a $500 price rise.
Across the range, the 1.9-litre engine is $2000 less than the 3.0-litre in variants which offer both drivetrains, while 3.0-litre examples have increased in price by $500 to $2000, depending on the grade.
There’s no extra equipment to go along with the higher costs, with Junta Matsui, Isuzu Ute Australia Managing Director, saying the increase “was a decision not taken lightly, with all options deeply considered”.
The 2024 Isuzu D-Max will go on sale in Australia on April 2, 2024.

Drivetrains
There are now two engine options available: with the 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel remaining alongside a new to the MU-X 1.9-litre four-cylinder, also found in the D-Max and Mazda BT-50 utes.
The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel produces 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque, while the 1.9-litre develops 110kW and 350Nm.
A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range, while there’s a choice of rear-wheel drive (4×2) and four-wheel drive (4×4) variants.
4×4 models have a switchable 4WD system with high- and low-range gearing and a locking rear differential.
Efficiency
The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel powered Isuzu MU-X has a claimed combined fuel economy of 7.8 litres per 100km in 4×2 models, and 8.3 litres per 100km in 4×4 models.
Isuzu’s new 1.9-litre turbo-diesel has a claimed combined fuel economy of 7.4 litres per 100km across both MU-X 4×2 and 4×4 grades.
All examples are equipped with an 80-litre fuel tank.
