MG Australia has made no changes to its ZST crossover for 2024.
An updated, restyled version of the cheaper ZS, the ZST adds a suite of safety technology over its ZS sibling which includes blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
There’s a $3000 premium between the ZS and entry-model ZST Core.
According to VFACTS figures, MG Australia sold 29,258 examples of its ZS in 2023. This figure combines ZS, ZS EV and ZST.
This made MG’s small SUV range the most popular vehicle in its segment and the fifth best-selling vehicle overall in Australia.

Drivetrains
The 2024 MG ZST Core and Vibe are powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine making 84kW of power and 150Nm of torque, sent through the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The 2024 MG ZST Excite and Essence are powered by a 1.3-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol engine with 115kW of power and 230Nm of torque, sent through the front wheels through a six-speed torque converter automatic.
Efficiency
Claimed fuel economy for the MG ZST Core and Vibe is 6.9 litres per 100km on the combined cycle. The Essence and Excite use a claimed 7.1L/100km.
The ZST requires 95 RON premium unleaded with the 1.3-litre turbocharged engine, and 91 RON regular unleaded with the 1.5-litre engine. The Core and Vibe have a 48L fuel tank, and the Excite and Essence have a 45L fuel tank.
Dimensions
The 2024 MG ZST measures 4323mm long, 1809mm wide and 1653mm tall, with a 2585mm wheelbase.
Tare mass is 1295kg and the maximum braked towing capacity is 500kg.
Boot space is 359 litres with the rear seats upright, and 1187L with them folded flat. There’s a multi-tier boot floor 60/40 split-fold rear seats.
Servicing and Warranty
The MG ZST is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with seven years of roadside assist.
Servicing is required every 12 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first. MG Australia offers capped-price servicing for the first seven years or 70,000km.
The first seven services for ZSTs with the 1.5-litre engine are capped at $262, $311, $314, $439, $262, $363 and $262 , respectively.
The 1.3-litre’s first seven services are capped at $265, $314, $317, $547, $265, $366 and $265.
Safety
ANCAP has yet to crash test the ZST, however the related ZS has been crash-tested and received a four-star rating back in 2017. This rating will expire in December 2024.
It’s worth mentioning the ZS EV, which features the same suite of active safety technology as the ZST, scored a five-star rating when it was tested in 2019.
