After being leaked over the weekend, the updated Nissan Rogue — known in most other parts of the world as the Nissan X-Trail — has been officially unveiled in the States.
Externally, the revised Rogue, and likely the upcoming X-Trail facelift too, is distinguished by a new version of the company’s V-motion grille design that has broader, partially chromed slats, and no longer features a chromed frame.
The new grille is accompanied by a “bolder” front bumper design, and new look 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels. High-end models are also fitted with gloss black exterior trim pieces, including wheel arch protectors.
American-market models also sport subtly revised tail-light graphics, and a more rugged-looking rear bumper. However, these two changes seem to bring the Rogue into line with the look already sported on X-Trails sold elsewhere in the world.
On the inside there are new colours and texture options for the door panel, dashboard, and centre console trim.
In the US lower-spec models a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen with two USB-C ports up front, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
Higher trim levels in the US are equipped with a 12.3-inch high definition touchscreen infotainment system that’s now fitted with a bunch of Google services built in, including the Google Assistant natural language voice recognition system, Google Maps for navigation, and the Google Play Store which allows for more apps to be added.
Despite Google services being baked into this system, this infotainment still supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring.
For the American market, the Rogue continues to be offered with just one drivetrain: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a variable compression turbocharger hooked up to a continuously variable transmission. Output from this engine remains unchanged at 150kW and 305Nm.
In Australia, the X-Trail is offered with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder or a 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid.
While North American Rogues come mainly from the company’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, Australian-market X-Trails are built exclusively in Japan.
The updated Rogue will head into North American showrooms in early 2024. It’s unclear when the facelifted X-Trail will be unveiled, and when it will go on sale in Australia and other parts of the world.
