‘Fast’ is an understatement when it comes to Aston Martin’s new race car for the road.
The Aston Martin Valiant is a more hardcore and even faster follow-up to the Valour which launched last year.
The Valiant was developed with input from two-time Formula One World Champion and current Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso, who personally commissioned the track-focused supercar.
Like the Valour, it’s powered by Aston Martin’s twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine, producing 548kW of power and 753Nm of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
While it boasts 22kW more than the Valour, the Valiant’s torque output is unchanged as it’s understood to be at the limit of what the gearbox can handle.
Additional changes under the skin include a revolutionary 3D-printed subframe (saving 3kg), a magnesium torque tube (reducing central mass by 8.6kg) and a motorsport-derived lithium-ion battery, cutting another 11.5kg from its diet.
While it features the Valour’s retro-style round headlights set deep into the full-width carbon-fibre front grille, the Valiant’s body is significantly widened by wild carbon-fibre sections that enhance aerodynamic downforce at high speeds.
Formula One-style ‘vortex generators’ are integrated into the bodywork ahead of the rear wheels, further increasing high-speed downforce and road holding.
A set of 21-inch magnesium wheels continue the weight-saving exercise, combining for a 14kg saving and reducing unsprung mass.
The interior is kitted with track-ready equipment, including a half-cage and pair of Recaro Podium racing seats, allowing owners to install four-point harnesses if they’re truly committed.
There’s carbon fibre and Alcantara trim, while the Valiant features an exposed shifter linkage that Aston Martin claims has been enhanced to improve the shifting experience thanks to a new weighted knob.
Only 38 Valiants will be produced and sold, each containing specialised upgrades chosen by Fernando Alonso himself.
According to Motor1.com, the average cost for a Valiant will be approximately £2 million, equating to $3.79 million, though this is dependent on individual customisation preferences.
The Aston Martin Valiant will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from July 11 to 14.
