The 2025 Cupra Terramar has been unveiled as the sporty Spanish brand’s take on the Volkswagen Tiguan, and it’s coming to Australia with the choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid power.
Sitting above the Ateca, the Cupra Terramar is based on the new-generation Tiguan but with the flair we’ve come to expect from the makers of the Formentor.
Cupra Australia has thus far confirmed at least two drivetrains will be offered to local Terramar buyers when it arrives next year: a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, and a plug-in hybrid 1.5-litre four-cylinder.

The non-hybrid Terramar will produce 195kW of power and drive all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In the related upcoming Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Superb Sportline flagships, this engine produces 400Nm of torque.
Cupra hasn’t yet detailed specific outputs for the Terramar plug-in hybrid (PHEV), though in Europe the mechanically identical Tiguan eHybrid produces 150kW in front-wheel drive guise and 200kW with all-wheel drive, both mated to a six-speed dual-clutch auto.
All Cupra Terramar grades are fitted as standard with sports suspension, progressive steering, adaptive chassis control and performance Akebono brakes.
Its exterior design is an evolution of Cupra’s existing design language which we’ve recently seen in the facelifted Formentor, with triangular elements throughout including in the matrix LED HD headlights.
At the rear, a full-width tail light integrates the brand’s logo in the middle, with the Terramar name also illuminated.
These sit above the rear bumper which incorporates a body-coloured diffuser, similar to the top-spec Leon VZx hatchback.
Cupra will offer the Terramar in nine exterior colours, which includes the matte Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey finishes, as well as the new Dark Void – inspired by the DarkRebel concept.
Inside, the cabin design offers a familiar sight to current Formentor owners, with its flat-bottomed steering wheel, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
As with other Volkswagen Group models, the carmaker has addressed complaints by backlighting the haptic climate control sliders at the base of the screen – just don’t expect the physical ‘clacking’ of actual buttons.
The gear selector has moved from its traditional place in the centre console and onto a column stalk, though drivers can also manually change ratios with paddles behind the steering wheel.
Cupra claims at least 73 per cent of the Dinamica upholstery inside the Terramar is made from recycled textile or leather, while its Seaqual Yarn textiles are completely upcycled.
Rather than the Beats-branded audio systems of Cupra’s current models, the Terramar has moved to a 12-speaker Sennheiser sound system.
Occupants are also treated to Cupra’s trick interior ambient lighting which can double as a blind-spot warning for the driver.
Australian pricing and specifications for the Cupra Terramar are due to be announced closer to its local launch.
