Maserati has opened orders for the GT2 Stradale supercar in Australia, but you’ll have to get in quick.

Based on the MC20 sports car, the stripped-out, track-focused two-seater will hit our shores in strictly limited numbers next year, with a starting price of $699,000 before on-road costs.

That’s $161,400 more than the similarly focused Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and dearer than both the Ferrari 296 and McLaren 750S.

The Maserati GT2 Stradale will be available in Australia as a special customer order only, with no set number of examples allocated to the local market.

“For now it is unclear how many Maserati GT2 Stradale models will be allocated to us,” said Grant Barling, the general manager of Maserati in Australia and New Zealand.

“We are doing our best to secure as many as possible.

“But we expect demand will exceed supply globally, and therefore it will be sold on a first-come, first served basis.

“We will only receive vehicles for customer orders, and we must compete with other markets for our allocation, so customers who want one will need to get in quick.”

Compared to the regular Maserati MC20, which retails from $490,500 plus on-road costs, the GT2 Stradale brings motorsport underpinnings and a rounded array of performance upgrades.

The headline figures include a 8kW power bump, with its twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine now producing 471kW and 720Nm, or enough to propel the GT2 Stradale from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds (0.1s quicker than the MC20) and reach a top speed of 324km/h.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As well as packing extra punch, the GT2 Stradale is 60kg lighter than the donor car by tipping the scales at 1365kg.

A new aero package adorns the bodywork, including a broader front grille, motorsport-derived front bumper, fender air outtakes, enlarged rear fender intakes, a reinforced bonnet, and an adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing.

In its ‘high drag’ maximum attack mode, the GT2 Stradale can generate 500kg of aerodynamic downforce at 280 km/h, more than triple the MC20’s 145kg contribution at the same speed.

A range of unique exterior colours complete the meaner look – Nero Essenza, Blu Infinito, Gloss Giallo Genio, Matte Bianco Audace, and launch colour Digital Aurora Matte are the five dedicated offerings.

The interior of the GT2 Stradale is equipped with Alcantara upholstery and carbon fibre, in line with the lightweight ethos of the car. Bespoke carbon fibre bucket seats were co-developed with Sabelt, and come with racing harness compatibility.

Ahead of the driver, the steering wheel is likewise aimed at track use with LED shift lights and grippy alcantara trim.

On top of the upgrades fitted to each GT2 Stradale, Maserati will offer an optional Performance Pack that adds a new Corsa Evo ‘track mode’, Michelin semi-slick tyres, an adjustable traction control system, and an electronic limited-slip differential.
