The next-generation Nissan Patrol’s unveiling has been all but confirmed by the Japanese carmaker, even if we still don’t know when we’ll see the new model in Australian showrooms.
In its most recent financial report, Nissan CEO Makato Uchida announced the Patrol – which is sold as the Armada in the US – is set to be revealed in the third or fourth quarter of the Japanese financial year.
Japan’s financial quarters are offset by three months compared to Australia, meaning covers could come off the new Nissan Patrol at any time between October 2024 and March 2025.

This aligns with previous reports that the Patrol would launch by the end of March next year, however Nissan Americas chairperson Jeremie Papin last month confirmed to Automotive News the next-generation SUV would be unveiled before the end of 2024.
Curiously, an image of the brand’s new models included two dark silhouettes which both appear to share the same shape as the Patrol, though it’s likely this was done to denote left- and right-hand drive versions of the model.
As previously reported, it’ll continue to be twinned with the even more luxurious Infiniti QX80, which was revealed earlier this year.

The new-gen Infiniti QX80 points to what we can expect in the new Nissan Patrol.
This includes its naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8 engine being replaced by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, which will produce 38kW and 138Nm more than its predecessor.
Nissan’s new engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission – rather than the existing seven-speed – and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, at least overseas. It’s expected to remain all-wheel drive only in Australia, as the Patrol has been for almost 40 years.
The new Patrol will give Nissan a much-needed contender to the LandCruiser 300 Series, which debuted in 2021.
By contrast, the current ‘Y62’ Patrol launched in 2010 and went on sale in Australia in 2013, meaning it’s now more than a decade old and unlikely to be replaced within the next 18 months.
The Patrol’s age has hurt it in the sales charts, with Nissan reporting 3943 examples as sold in Australia during the first half of the year, compared to 8199 LandCruiser wagons – however the latter figure includes not only the 300 Series but the 70 Series wagon and Troop Carrier.
