The Peugeot 308 is getting a new mild-hybrid powertrain for 2025, but it’s losing its wagon and top-spec GT Premium variants in the process.
The 2025 308 will be offered in a single GT trim, powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain with 100kW of power and 230Nm of torque.
Available for pre-order now ahead of deliveries in the first quarter of 2025, it’s priced at $48,990 before on-road costs – a $5000 increase over the outgoing GT, which also has a turbo 1.2-litre three-pot but goes without a mild-hybrid system.

Torque in the 2025 model is unchanged at 230Nm, but power is up by 4kW.
Peugeot claims a 20.8 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions and a 20.7 per cent improvement in combined cycle fuel consumption compared to the old powertrain.
The company plans to roll out the new mild-hybrid powertrain across a raft of models, starting with the 3008 and 308.
While the top-spec GT Premium has been axed, the new mild-hybrid GT has received some features previously exclusive to it in Australia such as a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, and lane-centring.
Separately, Peugeot has announced it’s bringing 14 examples of the E-308 electric hatch to Australia as part of a ‘Peugeot Preview Program’, which the French brand is calling “an exclusive customer evaluation program”.
Over the first 12 months of their ownership experience, E-308 buyers will be asked to share their feedback with Peugeot Australia.
The company has declined to confirm a date for a more traditional market launch for the E-308.
The axing of both the 308 and 508 wagons this year leaves Peugeot without any of this bodystyle in Australia.
That’s despite the brand having consistently offered wagons for decades and saying as recently as September 2023 that they would stay “for the foreseeable future”.
It also leaves the small car segment with just one wagon: the Subaru WRX. However, Cupra will introduce a wagon version of its rival Leon in 2025.
