The electric Porsche Macan lineup has expanded before the first models even reach Australian customers.

    Porsche has opened orders for the new base Macan and mid-range Macan 4S, with customer arrivals commencing in the first half of 2025.

    The Macan is priced at $128,400 before on-road costs, $6000 cheaper than the all-wheel drive Macan 4.

    The 4S slots in between the 4 and the Turbo, priced at $149,300 before on-roads – $35,100 cheaper than the flagship variant.

    The new entry-level model is the first time the Macan nameplate has been offered with rear-wheel drive.

    As with other Macan models, it uses a 100kWh (gross) battery, though the SUV is 110kg lighter than the Macan 4 due to the absence of a second electric motor.

    Claimed range is 654km in ADR 81/02 testing.

    It features a single, rear-mounted electric motor, shared with the Macan 4, producing 250kW of power or 265kW on overboost. Maximum torque is 563Nm.

    That makes it good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds, or 0.5 seconds slower than the Macan 4.

    The 4S is equipped with the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) system, which Porsche claims allows for power to be distributed between the front and rear axles five times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system.

    It has a new rear-axle motor with a 600-amp silicon carbide pulse inverter (up from 480 amps in the base and 4 models).

    Total system outputs are 330kW (or 380kW on overboost), with maximum torque of 820Nm.

    That gives it a 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds, while ADR 81/02 range is 619km.

    Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic damping control is standard, while you can also add adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-axle steering.

    The 4S, also like the Turbo, features a panoramic glass roof, Bose surround sound system, matrix LED main headlights, and four-zone climate control as standard.

    All Macan models feature an 800-volt architecture and DC charging capacity of up to 270kW, with Porsche claiming the 100kWh battery is chargeable from 10 to 80 per cent in around 21 minutes using a suitable fast-charging station.

    All models are available to order now in a new Slate Grey Neo exterior finish, while there’s an optional off-road design package with a restyled front bumper increasing the approach angle to up to 17.4 degrees depending on the model.

    When equipped with this package and adaptive air suspension, ground clearance is increased by 10mm to 195mm.

    The Macan is Porsche’s first vehicle on the Porsche Platform Electric and its second EV after the Taycan.

    No combustion-powered versions will be available, so existing Macan buyers will need to get on board with electric power or step up to the Cayenne if they’re petrolheads.

    The Macan has a drag coefficient of 0.25.

    All Macans coming to Australia will come standard with privacy glass, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view camera.

    Inside, all models have a 12.6-inch curved display, with a 10.9-inch passenger display and augmented reality head-up display available.

    The infotainment system has received an update with a new “emotional” welcoming animation and a Themes app allowing you to change the background colour of the displays and the ambient lighting.

    Porsche’s first electric SUV is launching here in the fourth quarter of 2024 in previously revealed Macan 4 and flagship Macan Turbo variants.
