The next generation of Volkswagen T-Roc has been spotted testing yet again, this time undergoing testing in the Alps ahead of a likely 2025 launch.

We first caught sight of the new T-Roc back in May, and now the new-gen crossover has been spied taking on mountain roads alongside the first generation car, which entered production in 2017.

A facelift of the first generation was unveiled in 2021, set to be replaced by the new T-Roc which is expected to debut in Europe next year, before an Australian arrival further down the line.

The T-Roc is Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV in Australia, currently sitting behind the Amarok ute for sales across the line-up.

The balance has shifted over the last year – Volkswagen sold 8943 T-Rocs Down Under in 2023, compared to 6266 Amaroks, due in part to deliveries of the new ute ramping up.

Images of the camouflaged pre-production car reveal a similar exterior design to the current car, with a raised hatchback shake and short rear.

Though it features a number of revised design elements, these are all presented on vinyl camouflage, possibly hiding the true looks behind.

Revised headlights are connected by an LED strip across the grille – a design staple of new Volkswagen models – while front grille has also been restyled, as well as the front bumper, giving the new T-Roc a larger ‘mouth’.

Thinner reflectors and an LED strip connecting the tail lights feature at the rear, though these may not feature on the production model.

Under the skin the T-Roc is expected to offer a choice of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the option of either front- or all-wheel drive.

The current range starts at $36,890 before on-roads for the base FWD CityLife, and extends to $63,490 before on-roads for the performance-focused AWD R.
