The facelifted Kia Sportage has shed more camouflage, previewing its new look which better aligns it with other members of the South Korean brand’s lineup.

Due to arrive in Australia during the second quarter of 2025, the updated Sportage will undergo a significant bodywork change at the front and rear, moving to more vertically oriented headlights and rather Ford Everest-esque tail lights.

While the model shown is the short-wheelbase version of the Sportage sold in Europe, the design changes are set to carry over to Australian-delivered long-wheelbase versions which are produced in South Korea.

There are also new wheel designs, again aligning the updated Sportage with newer Kia models.

Though this example appears to be a base model by its interior equipment, we can see the cabin has also been refreshed with revised seat and door card trim, plus a more rectangular steering wheel.

It appears the 12.3-inch infotainment screen and identically sized digital instrument cluster found in high-spec versions of the current Sportage will be available to the wider lineup for the facelifted model.

It’s not yet known whether there will be any changes to the Sportage’s powertrain offerings.

In Australia, it’s currently offered with a choice of naturally aspirated 2.0-litre and turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, plus a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four and a 1.6-litre turbo hybrid. A turbo 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid is also offered overseas.

It’s unclear if the Sportage, like the related Hyundai Tucson, will lose its diesel engine option with the update.

The Sportage is easily Kia’s best seller in Australia, with a total of 16,095 sold this year to the end of September. The Cerato sits in second with 12,805 sales.
