The electric Audi A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron have been approved for sale in Australia, where they’ll slot into a growing range of electric vehicles (EVs) at the four-ring brand.

Two versions of the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron have been given the seal of approval, with the pair approved to be sold in both wagon (Avant) or liftback (Sportback) body styles.

Few details about Audi’s new electric luxury cars were confirmed by the approval document, aside from power outputs of 270kW and 370kW for the rear-wheel drive A6 e-tron Performance and all-wheel drive S6 e-tron, respectively.

    The base rear-wheel drive A6 e-tron and all-wheel drive A6 e-tron Quattro weren’t mentioned in the document.

The Audi A6 e-tron is a more practical and likely more affordable alternative to the brand’s e-tron GT flagship, positioned to rival the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.

Audi’s new line of luxury EVs is expected to launch in the first half of 2025.

The A6 e-tron is powered by a single electric motor, fed by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery. In addition to 270kW of power, the A6 e-tron performance has a claimed WLTP range of more than 750km.

Driving range drops to around 670km for the S6 e-tron, which packs an extra electric motor on the front axle, boosting power by 100kW.

The A6 e-tron uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, which allows for a maximum DC charging capacity of 270kW. AC charging capacity as standard is 11kW.

Production models stay relatively true to the styling of the A6 e-tron and A6 Avant e-tron concepts.

The interior of the electric A6 and S6 is headlined by a 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 10.9-inch passenger display and an augmented reality head-up display.

A 20-speaker, 830W Bang & Olufsen sound system is among the options.

A long list of active safety and driver assist technology features on the new models, including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and semi-autonomous parking assist.

In addition, Audi has developed ‘adaptive driving assistant plus’, which combines adaptive cruise and lane centring, while also using high-resolution map data and swarm data from other vehicles to calculate the route ahead and “enable a comfortable driving experience”.

The A6 e-tron is the first passenger car on the Premium Platform Electric, which debuted in the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan SUVs.

Audi is transitioning to a new model lineup with even-numbered electric models and odd-numbered combustion vehicles.

The current ICE A6 sedan and wagon are expected to adopt the A7 nameplate at the next generational changeover. Next-generation A7 models have been spied testing, pointing to a debut this year or in 2025.
