A New South Wales man has allegedly tested positive for cocaine after being caught traveling more than two times above the posted speed limit on Sydney’s Anzac Bridge.
At 10:40pm on Sunday July 14, Leichhardt Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Western Distributor when they detected the grey BMW M5 Competition travelling at 134km/h in a 60km/h.
The driver, who produced a digital New South Wales licence, was fined $2959 and received a six demerit point penalty for the speeding offence, with his licence also suspended for six months.
Additionally, his M5’s registration plates were confiscated for three months.
Highway Patrol officers also allege the 26-year-old driver tested positive to cocaine in a roadside test.
He was arrested and taken to a police station where a further sample was collected, though the results of the second test have yet to be announced.
First-time drug driving offences attract a penalty notice fine of $682 and a three-month licence suspension, however a court can choose to increase the fine to $2200 and disqualify a driver for up to six months.
