Screenshots of BYD subsidiary Fang Cheng Bao’s smallest off-roader have been leaked ahead of its expected reveal in 2024.
Photos from Car News China of the Bao 3 show a similar boxy design to its larger siblings, the Bao 5 and flagship Bao 8.
Up the front the Bao 3 has a rectangular grille and light bar, a contrasting silver front bumper (likely shaped to improve the vehicle’s approach angle), dual-strip LED lights, and dual-rectangular LED headlights.
The side profile features pronounced wheel arches, large wheels, and a smaller third row window. Photos also show roof rails and a sunroof.
At the rear, it has a similar-shaped bumper to the front, a split spoiler, rectangular LED tail lights, and a spare wheel mounted to the tailgate with a built-in reversing camera. Based on its design, it could also offer a side hinged tailgate.
Car News China reports the rugged SUV will be a bit larger than the BYD Atto 3, which measures 4455mm long, 1875mm wide, and 1615mm tall, with a 2720mm wheelbase.
Based on information from Car News China, the Bao 3 is expected to be all-electric like the Atto 3, which will be a first for Fang Cheng Bao. The Bao 5 reportedly offers an internal-combustion powertrain with a plug-in hybrid set up.
Car News China reports the Bao 3 will have a dual-motor four-wheel drive setup. It’s expected to be powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery which will come from FinDreams, another BYD subsidiary.
The news outlet expects the four-wheel drive to be priced between ¥200,000 and 300,000 ($43,447 and $65,171)in China.
For reference the larger Land Rover Defender-rivalling Bao 5 is priced at the equivalent of between $61,900 and $74,700. Pricing for the larger Bao 8 is yet to be released.
