BYD’s local distributor EVDirect has announced a partnership with Australian-based off-road accessories company Ironman 4×4 for the new Shark 6 ute.
Some examples of the factory-backed optional extras that will be available for the ground-breaking new plug-in hybrid ute as a result include tow bars, bull bars, roof racks, tonneau covers and floor mats, among others. All are designed in Australia.
All of the Shark 6’s official Ironman 4×4 accessories will be available only via BYD’s local dealership network. And they’ll all be covered by the vehicle’s six-year, 150,000km warranty.

Ironman 4×4 global product director Kristian Ristell told CarExpert there’s also a gross vehicle mass (GVM) upgrade for the Shark 6 in the works. The company is aiming to have it ready by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
The standard GVM for the Shark 6 Premium is 3500kg, with a payload of 790kg.
This isn’t the first time a partnership like this has come about. Ford currently has a partnership with ARB to offer off-road accessories for the Ranger and Everest through its dealer network.
When it goes on sale at the end of this month, ahead of first customer deliveries around the end of this year, the Shark 6 will only be available in a singular range-topping variant called the Premium. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Under the bonnet is a version of the Sealion 6 Premium AWD mid-size SUV’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that’s longitudinally mounted instead of transversally mounted, plus two electric motors (one on each axle), and a 29.58kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
Total system outputs are 321kW of power and 650Nm of torque. The Shark 6 is also claimed to be able to travel up to 100km on electric power alone, according to NEDC testing.
