There’s life left in Cupra’s Ateca SUV yet, with the model set to remain in showrooms until at least the end of 2025.
First launched in 2018, the Ateca was the first model under the Cupra brand, pre-dating other nameplates in the current range such as the Formentor and Born.
The Ateca has been a staple of the Australian Cupra lineup since the sporty Volkswagen Group-owned brand set up Down Under in 2022, and a new base variant will hit the market this month.

Speculation has been rife that the upcoming Terramar would be a straight swap for the Ateca as Cupra’s leading family SUV, with the new model due to arrive in 2025.
However, Cupra Australia head of marketing and product Jeff Shafer insists the Ateca isn’t on the chopping block, with both models to be sold side-by-side.
“There’s no end date for now,” Mr Shafer told CarExpert.
“For the foreseeable future, Ateca will be in the Cupra range. It’ll be with us at least through until the end of 2025.
“I don’t expect any change to that.”
The Ateca range consists of the base V and VZx. Prices start from $49,888 drive-away, while the flagship tops out under $70,000.
New to Australia, the V gets a lower tune of the Volkswagen Group’s EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 140kW of power and 320Nm of torque.
Step up to the VZx and outputs jump to 221kW and 400Nm. Both variants send drive to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic.
Compared to its newer siblings, the Ateca houses previous generation Volkswagen tech, which means an interior with plenty of physical buttons and yesterday’s screens.
So far this year, Cupra has sold 196 Atecas, putting it behind the Leon (259 sales), Born (334) and Formentor (823).
