American cars have long been accused of feeling a bit… boaty on the road, but this Dodge Challenger took things a step further.
A driver has lost control of their Dodge Challenger and landed head first in a nearby lake in Cape Coral, Florida United States.
The footage is courtesy of a security camera from a nearby house, posted online by NBC2 News. It shows two vehicles in tandem coming down the quiet street before the Dodge appears to veer off the road and drive straight instead of the road.
In the first five seconds of the video, which appears to be the most accurate representation of speed – in other parts of the video it speeds up and slows down to emphasise key moments – it shows the vehicles traveling fairly fast down the suburban street.
After the Dodge goes off the road it appears to maintain speed before smashing into some bushes and going head first into a small lake between homes.
Once the car dives into the lake it comes back to the surface and begins to float down the lake. The driver inside the car can be seen trying to escape through the driver’s side window, before a bystander jumps in to save them.
After the driver comes out of the vehicle, the Challenger begins to sink.
The driver doesn’t appear to be hurt – besides maybe his ego – as he gets out of the lake on his own.
The Cape Coral Police Department is yet to comment on the issue or release any further details of the incident.
