A 20-year-old will have some explaining to do after being caught allegedly speeding at almost double the limit in his dad’s car.
On Friday July 26, Hawkesbury Highway Patrol officers detected a Ford Falcon G6E Turbo allegedly being driven towards them at between 144km/h and 157km/h in an 80km/h signposted section of Boundary Road.
After pulling over, the 20-year-old driver – who had a passenger on board – was reportedly left speechless, offering no explanation for his high-speed antics.
The man was found to have a full licence which had been held for less than five months, however the 270kW car was registered to and owned by his father.
As such, New South Wales couldn’t impound the car or confiscate its number plates because its owner wasn’t the driver.
The driver however had his licence suspended for six months on the spot, also copping a $2959 fine and six demerit point penalty for his troubles.
