A bizarre low-speed crash has shown even the best anti-lock braking systems can struggle on loose surfaces, as this Porsche Macan driver unfortunately discovered.
In a video uploaded to Instagram by Marcel Gonçalves, the petrol-powered Macan is seen driving slowly through what looks like an equestrian arena when it suddenly accelerates.
Perhaps realising the SUV is carrying too much speed, the driver applies the brakes to no avail on the slippery surface, with even a handful of steering lock not correcting its course.

The Porsche then strikes a row of electronic signs at speed, though it was thankfully stopped by the boards and not the crowd of patrons behind.
It’s not clear why the Macan was being driven at speed in such tight confines, or how much damage the impact caused to the car and expensive digital displays.
While anti-lock braking systems, commonly marketed as ABS, can prevent your wheels from stopping rotating when using more braking force than the road surface can provide, they’re not fool-proof and won’t reduce braking distances in all situations.
