The Ford Ranger lineup is set to grow again in the near future, after a new variant was approved for sale in Australia.
Documents submitted to and approved by the Department of Infrastructure list a new variant of the Ranger called the Tremor.
The Ford Ranger Tremor is already sold in other right-hand drive markets such as South Africa and New Zealand, where – in the case of the latter – it’s based on the mid-range Sport.

Across the ditch, the Ranger Tremor is powered by a bi-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which, unlike other examples in the range, requires AdBlue and is mated to a full-time four-wheel drive system rather than the part-time setup from lower grades.
In New Zealand, it’s priced from NZ$74,900 (A$68,214) before on-road costs, or NZ$5000 (A$4554) more than the Ranger Sport but NZ$2000 (A$1821) less than the Ranger Wildtrak.
Additional equipment compared to the Sport includes the discontinued Wildtrak X’s Bilstein shocks – providing an additional 24mm of ground clearance, teamed with a 30mm wider track – and 17-inch wheels shod in General Grabber AT3 tyres.
Cosmetic changes include a revised front grille with integrated LED driving lights; dark aluminium side steps; a longer sports bar; and two front tow hooks.
There’s also additional steel underbody protection, such as a bash plate, and engine, transfer case and fuel tank guards.
There are some trim highlights in Boulder Grey, while the New Zealand-spec Ranger Tremor is available in Arctic White, Blue Lightning, Conquer Grey and Shadow Black exterior finishes.
Interior equipment adjustments such as Tremor-embroidered water-resistant black vinyl seats (with six-way power adjustment), vinyl flooring, auxiliary switches, and Precision Grey accents and Ebony trim highlights.
Drivers are also treated to the Raptor’s Trail Turn Assist and Trail Control systems, which act as aids when driving off-road.
Ford Australia is yet to confirm when the Ranger Tremor will be in local showrooms, and how much it will cost. We’ve contacted the company for comment.
In Australia there are currently 22 Ford Ranger combinations available, with the count growing by one earlier this week with the launch of the XL-based Black Edition.
