Genesis taunts us with another mid-engine V6 supercar concept

Genesis has revealed its latest supercar concept, but don’t expect to be able to drive it… at least not in real life.

The Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept not only has a long name, but it has also been developed for the Gran Turismo Playstation video game series – the fourth vehicle the brand has developed for the franchise.

Revealed at the Busan motor show in South Korea, Genesis has tied in the X Gran Racer VGT with its recently announced Magma line of performance vehicles.

It’s a modified version of the X Gran Berlinetta Concept, packing a front mid-mounted ‘race-spec’ version of the Lambda II V6 engine with Genesis’ electric supercharger technology.

The 649kW/1071Nm V6 is mated with a 500kW/305Nm electric motor for total system outputs of 1148kW and 1425Nm.

The X Gran Berlinetta concept is no shrinking violet, but the X Gran Racer turns it up to 11.

The most obvious change is the addition of an enormous carbon-fibre rear wing with integrated lighting, while Genesis has also fitted a larger front splitter and front canards, plus a more aggressive rocker panel treatment and ground effects.

There are active aerodynamic flaps plus a flat underbody design to reduce drag and improve high-speed stability.

As with the X Gran Berlinetta, the latest concept features Genesis’ traditional two-line lighting elements. Up front, the split-level lighting further diverges to form the illuminated outline of a crest-shaped grille.

Both supercar concepts are finished in bright orange paint, which contrasts with numerous carbon-fibre elements.

Inside, there’s a single-seat configuration with a steering yoke and a fully integrated roll cage.

Controls are incorporated into a structural divider under the instrument panel, while a panoramic display stretches across the dashboard to provide the driver with essential vehicle information.

The interior features extensive use of carbon fibre, while quilted padding is applied to areas the driver’s body will come into contact with.

The concept will be on display at the Busan motor show from June 28 to July 7, alongside the refreshed Electrified G80 and the Neolun concept revealed at this year’s New York motor show, among other Genesis models.

In addition to these supercar concepts, Genesis has previously revealed a trio of two-door grand tourer concepts, all wearing the X nameplate. Unfortunately, these have also yet to translate to production vehicles.
