Jeep Grand Cherokee standard wheelbase to debut in September

The shorter two-row version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be officially unveiled on September 29, 2021, US time.

It won’t be the first time we’ve seen the short wheelbase Grand Cherokee. Jeep revealed the design of the SUV at the Stellantis EV Day in July, but the launch should include drivetrain, specification and interior details that are currently unknown.

We do know the standard wheelbase model will be available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, but Jeep has yet to provide any details about the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

It might share its powertrain with the Wrangler 4xe, which has a total system output of 280kW and 637Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and two electric motors.

That car is fitted with a 40kWh battery, and is said to be capable of 40km of tailpipe emissions-free driving.

The Grand Cherokee L was unveiled at the beginning of the year with either a  216kW/350Nm 3.6-litre V6 or a 266kW/530Nm 5.7-litre V8.

Currently on sale in the US, the Grand Cherokee L is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a special, locally developed suspension tune.

Measuring 5202mm long, 1979mm wide, 1813mm tall and riding a 3092mm wheelbase, the new Grand Cherokee L is significantly bigger than today’s car.

We expect the standard wheelbase model to be closer to the dimensions of today’s fourth-generation model, which is 4828mm long and rides on a 2915mm wheelbase.
