The LDV eDeliver 5, a Chinese electric van to rival the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, has been approved for sale in Australia.

It’s poised to join LDV’s packed line-up of commercial vehicles, currently comprising five vans, a cab-chassis, and a bus.

Sold overseas as a Maxus and slotting in below the eDeliver 9 and eDeliver 7, the eDeliver 5 is powered by a 64kWh battery feeding a 120kW and 240Nm front-mounted electric motor.

Eight variants have been given the green light to launch locally, with different interior configurations.

Both two- and three-seat versions have been given the green light, with wheelbases ranging from 3100mm to 3450mm.

Short wheelbase models measure in at 4.8 metres long, 1.87m wide and 2.18m high, with a weight of 1850kg. That positions it in the smaller van segments.

Long wheelbase variants grow to 5.25m long and with another 80kg of kerb weight.

The eDeliver 5 comes standard with disc brakes front and rear, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Few further details were confirmed by the approval notice.

Overseas, the eDeliver 5 has a WLTP tested range of 335km and takes 42 minutes to charge from 20-80% when connected to a DC fast charger.

From a design standpoint, the goofy styling of the eDeliver 5 pits it up against other cute, curvy vans such as the ID.Buzz.

It’s offered with two-tone paint in the UK market, and has a safety suite with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assistance, surround-view cameras, rear parking sensors, and a speed limit warning with road sign recognition as standard.

Inside, the eDeliver 5 is fitted with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that has wireless smartphone mirroring capability.
