This learner driver will have to wait quite a bit longer to get their provisional licence.
Officers from The Hills Highway Patrol pulled over a 24-year-old learner driver on November 11, 2024 in Castle Hill, Sydney, after allegedly detecting his Tesla Model 3 travelling at 119km/h in a 60km/h zone.
After being pulled over and asked why he was speeding, the driver allegedly replied, “I am on my way to do my test.”
Learner drivers in New South Wales aren’t permitted to exceed 90km/h, even on roads where the speed limit is higher than this.

While he returned negative results for alcohol and drugs, he was slapped with numerous infringement notices.
These comprised one for exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/h, one for not displaying his L-plates, and one for driving without being accompanied by a licensed driver.
His learner licence was suspended and confiscated on the spot for a minimum period of six months.
The vehicle’s number plates weren’t confiscated, however, as the Model 3 didn’t belong to him.
Naturally, his driving test was cancelled.
