Maybach is bringing its more luxurious take on the Mercedes-AMG SL to Australia, but potential buyers will need to wait until 2026.
Unveiled in August, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is the first sports car from the three-pointed star’s ultra-luxury arm, having previously been focused on SUVs and more opulent versions of the flagship S-Class.
Pricing is yet to be locked in, but expect a jump from the $380,000 before on-road costs figure of the SL 63 upon which it’s based.
For context, the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic is $110,000 more than the GLS 64 4Matic+.

As with the AMG SL 63, the Maybach SL 680 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, producing up to 430kW and 800Nm which is delivered to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Unlike its performance-focused sibling, Maybach has fitted its convertible with a unique exhaust system and extra sound insulation to ensure a quieter ride.
Overseas, buyers can choose from two colour schemes – Red Ambience and White Ambience – each combining the respective core colours with an Obsidian Black upper section that covers the bonnet and boot lid.
Between sits the ‘extensively insulated’ black soft top, adorned with a Maybach badge pattern.
Other unique exterior features include rose gold-accented headlights, exclusive 21-inch forged wheels, custom bumpers, Maybach badging, and a raised front signet.
Inside the cabin, there’s a Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather interior, with silver chrome accents.
There are Maybach-specific digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen animations to ensure buyers see as much of the luxury brand’s design as possible.
It’s not yet clear if Mercedes Australia will launch the Maybach SL 680 with the range of matching accessories announced at its reveal, which includes a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a tote bag, and even a dog bag.
