MG says it hasn’t yet sold out of the previous-generation MG 3, but remaining stock is limited.
Only the base Core remains available, priced at $19,990 drive-away.
For context, the entry-level Excite version of the new-generation MG 3 lineup, launched last June, is currently being offered for $22,990 drive-away. It was previously available for $24,990 drive-away.
MG says a few hundred examples of the old model remain at dealers.

The company had said in June 2024 that it expected stock to dry up by December 2024, but now expects the last examples to be scooped up by customers by February.
While MG introduced sharper drive-away pricing for the new-generation MG 3 shortly after its launch, it says it won’t fall below the $20,000 drive-away mark.
“With ever growing development and production costs, we don’t expect to offer a car for under $20,000 in Australia again,” said MG Motor Australia chief commercial officer Giles Belcher.
“The MG 3 Auto is likely to be the last new car Australians can buy for under $20,000 drive-away.”
Both generations of MG 3 are backed by a 10-year, 250,000km warranty.
Once stock of the old MG 3 dries up, that’ll leave the Kia Picanto Sport manual unchallenged as Australia’s cheapest car. It’s priced at $18,290 before on-road costs, or $21,190 drive-away.
The Picanto was Australia’s cheapest new car until December 2023, when an update brought a swag of extra safety equipment and led Kia to bump up the price.
Though the new-generation hatch is pricier, MG says it expects the MG 3 to remain Australia’s best-selling light car – a title it has held since 2020.
Last year, MG sold 12,563 MG 3s in Australia. While its sales were down 18.6 per cent, MG still sold more than twice as many MG 3s as the second best-selling vehicle in its segment, the Suzuki Swift, and had a 47.7 per cent segment share.
Suzuki said last year it’s targeting 10,000 annual sales of the new Swift, launched in 2024. It sold 6126 examples last year.
