NSW Police dangerous driving blitz sees 12 motorists charged, over 100 fined

A dozen New South Wales motorists have been charged and more than 100 infringement notices have been issued following a dangerous driving crackdown by police in Sydney’s south.

From 4pm June 22 to 12am June 23, New South Wales police officers from the St George Police Area Command, Sutherland Police Area Command, South Sydney Police Area Command, and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command launched Operation Engage.

Located across the Botany Bay foreshore, Operation Engage was intended to target motorists who drove anti-socially and/or dangerously – and it did just that.

In total, 12 motorists were arrested and charged for multiple offences – including driving while unlicensed, driving while suspended and driving while disqualified – while 16 vehicles were grounded and towed for major defects.

A further 27 minor defect notices were issued, while 101 infringement notices were handed out across the eight-hour period.

“We want to encourage people to come out and enjoy their Saturday night along the foreshore, however we won’t tolerate dangerous driving,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Dunstan, Commander of St George Police Area Command.

“In future we plan to run more operations across the foreshore to target any other drivers who still choose to put the public in danger.”
