New South Wales Highway Patrol officers have issued more than $4000 in fines after clocking a Ford Falcon speeding twice in just 48 hours… by two different drivers.

Just before 6:30am on Wednesday, July 3, Deniliquin Highway Patrol officers detected a Ford Falcon allegedly travelling at 128km/h in a 100km/h signposted section of the Cobb Highway, following several prior complaints from other road users.

After being pulled over, the 21-year-old male driver produced his P1 Provisional licence (red P-plates), which require holders to adhere to a maximum speed limit of 90km/h – meaning he was detected at 38km/h above the limit.

He was promptly given an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by 30km/h (but by less than 45km/h), incurring a $1097 fine and five demerit points, resulting in an instant suspension of his driver’s licence for three months.

Two days later on Friday, July 5 at 6:30am, the same Ford Falcon was allegedly detected travelling at 145km/h on the Cobb Highway.

This time it was the car’s owner, another 21-year-old male on their red P-plates behind the wheel.

Like his mate, he was issued an infringement notice, this time copping a $2959 fine and six demerit points for exceeding his licence’s 90km/h speed limit by more than 45km/h.

In addition to his licence being suspended for six months, the Falcon’s number plates were also confiscated for three months.

The Ford owner was fortunate to avoid his Falcon being impounded by New South Wales Police, a power enforcement agencies hold if the owner of a vehicle is caught committing a serious driving offence – including speeding by more than 45km/h.
