Porsche is giving its owners a more direct, digital line to dealers.
The Porsche Sell Direct app allows owners to directly sell their cars to a pool of participating dealerships, which can instantly place a conditional offer.
Porsche says the dealer and owner’s details are kept under wraps until the latter accepts an offer. The app also includes advice on how to take photos of your car, and how to create a stronger listing.
The app is available for Android and Apple devices, and has been developed by Porsche Cars Australia.
Not only does the app tie in neatly with a broader industry trend towards online buying and selling, it gives Porsche dealers first crack at the pre-owned cars that make up a growing part of their business.
With demand for luxury cars sky-high on the back of COVID-19 and supply challenges constraining carmakers, a number of brands are looking to expand their pre-owned programs.
For Porsche, making it easier for existing owners to sell their car to a dealer also makes it easier for that dealer to find the right car for a new customer who doesn’t want to wait for a new 911.
At the more mainstream end of the market, Toyota Australia has pitched its pre-owned cars as an option for buyers who previously might have considered a base Yaris or Corolla.
Porsche Approved pre-owned vehicles are subjected to a 111-point workshop check, and are backed by a 12-month warranty in cases where the initial factory warranty has expired.
They also come with 12 months of roadside assist, and a full service history with factory parts.
