Joe Biden is a self-confessed car enthusiast, and this former ride of his is proof.
The incumbent US President, who has owned the same Chevrolet Corvette Stingray since 1967, was a previous driver of this one-off 2018 Cadillac ATS-V that’s now up for auction on Cars & Bids.
The President leased the BMW M3 rival, which is the only example built with a Black Raven exterior and Kona Brown interior.
The latter was exclusive to regular ATS models, so this was a special order. The interior also features Sapele Wood inlays.
The dealer selling the ATS-V says it has received some modifications, including 18-inch Tech Bronze wheels from the CT4-V Blackwing, plus a Rennick Performance front grille and suede-finish steering wheel and shifter.
The ATS-V packs a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 engine producing 346kW of power and 603Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, though the President’s example is an auto.
He acquired it in 2017 from Delaware Cadillac in his town of Wilmington, Delaware, shortly after he left the office of the Vice Presidency.
It’s quite a low-mileage vehicle, with just 25,588km (15,900 miles) on the odometer.
Cars & Bids has included photos of the President taking delivery, as well as documents such as the vehicle’s title and even emails with Delaware Cadillac outlining the President’s requests.
The latter shows President Biden had spoken with former Cadillac head Johan de Nysschen directly about what he wanted, and that the Secret Service requested the black exterior.
President Biden also asked the Secret Service to modify his security status so that he could personally drive. But with his run for President in the 2020 election, he was unable to drive for security reasons, and his lease was up by this point anyway.
He grew up around cars, with his father working as a car salesman. It was his father who gave him his ’67 Corvette as a wedding gift.
