A Ford Courier ute driver has been caught on dash cam transporting a fridge in an extremely unconventional and highly illegal manner.

Footage shared to Facebook by Dash Cam Owners Australia shows the incident took place on the streets of Toowoomba, Queensland.

The white fridge is in the tub of the Courier and doesn’t appear to be secured with any straps. Instead there’s a person in the tub holding the fridge with only one hand.

In the dash cam footage the ute is indicating to turn right at an intersection. It’s unclear whether the fridge remained upright after this turn.

It’s also unclear how long the ute had been travelling with the unsecured fridge held by the passenger in the tub, nor how much further they intend to keep driving.

In Queensland there’s an instant $256 fine or a 20 maximum penalty unit fine ($3086) for driving with an “insecure or overhanging load”.

Queensland drivers caught driving with a passenger in a part of a vehicle that’s not designed to carry goods when that part is not enclosed can also be slapped with an instant $288 fine or a three maximum penalty unit fine ($462.90).
