The #25 Ford Mustang currently fighting for this year’s Supercars Championship is heading to auction, and it could be a relatively cheap buy should it go on to win the title or Bathurst 1000 in just a month.
Walkinshaw Andretti United is selling chassis WR028 to free up space in its Clayton facility before this Mustang’s driver, Chaz Mostert, gets a new racer next year.
Hosted by Lloyds, the auction is due to end on Sunday, September 15 at 7:00pm (AEST) – just a few hours after the flag falls on this year’s Sandown 500 endurance race.

That means whoever buys Mostert’s Mustang will be buying a car before it’s completed the season, with the Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 500 and Adelaide 500 closing out the year.
Walkinshaw has done this before, having sold the Mostert’s 2021 Holden Commodore racer in September of the same year for $610,000, before going on to win the Bathurst 1000 the following month.
Mustang chassis WR028 debuted at the start of Supercars’ ‘Gen3’ era in 2023, and though it went winless last year – giving Mostert his first year without a victory or pole position – the car and its driver have been in form this year.
With three wins so far this year, including back-to-back victories in Sydney, Mostert is within 81 points of championship leader Will Brown, with a maximum 1200 points still up for grabs across the four remaining rounds of the season.
While the sale will likely be finalised before Monday, the car won’t be delivered to its new owner until next year, where it’ll be wrapped in the livery which it (hopefully) finishes the Bathurst 1000 in.
For the first time, Walkinshaw will also include the race-modified 5.4-litre Coyote V8 engine under the Mustang’s bonnet in the sale, rather than making the future owner find their own powerplant.
At the time of writing (3pm, September 12) bidding is up to $210,000.
