After introducing a longer warranty for its Koleos as part of a promotion, Renault Australia is making the extra coverage permanent.

The mid-sized SUV is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, instead of the five-year, unlimited-kilometre one it offered prior to the promotion.

“Our job is to listen to the market and the needs of our customers to ensure we remain competitive,” said Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey.

“Additionally, recognising the preference for certainty among family-oriented buyers, the decision to extend the seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on our volume model was also clear.”

Renault continues to offer five years of roadside assistance for Koleos buyers, as well as five years of capped-price servicing.

The smaller Arkana and Captur are still offered with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, whereas the Megane E-Tech has a five-year, 100,000km warranty.

The Koleos is Renault’s top-selling vehicle in Australia if you exclude commercial vehicles.

Renault sold 601 examples during the first half of 2024, though this is down 68.7 per cent on the same period last year.

It’s nevertheless well ahead of the Arkana (201 sales), Megane E-Tech (171 sales), and Captur (137 sales) on Renault’s local sales charts.

The current Korean-sourced Renault Koleos was first revealed in 2016 and updated in 2020. Under the skin it’s based on the same Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance parts as the previous-generation Nissan X-Trail.

Comments from Mr Sealey earlier this year indicated the Toyota RAV4 and Mitsubishi Outlander rival will remain on sale in Australia in 2025.

“Koleos is one of those vehicles that has pretty much stood the test of time,” said Mr Sealey.

“We see a future for it ongoing. We’ll certainly have it for the remainder of this year, and we’ll certainly have it next year as well.”

Renault has yet to confirm the recently revealed Geely-based Grand Koleos for our market.

The current Koleos is powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 126kW of power and 226Nm of torque.

This is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with drive sent through the front wheels only or through an all-wheel drive system, depending on the variant.

Pricing currently starts at $37,500 before on-roads for the Koleos Life, and extends to $48,500 before on-roads for the Koleos Intens 4×4.
