A Melbourne woman was snapped driving her Mazda CX-9 on just three tyres in Melbourne’s northwest on Thursday, with police alleging she was intoxicated.
Victoria Police reported several motorists contacted Triple 0 after the car was seen being driven on a bare rim along the Calder Freeway at about 3:20pm.
Police later located the car at the 53-year-old primary school teacher’s address in Essendon.
The driver accompanied officers to a police station where she was breath-tested and allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.139.
The car was impounded for 30 days at the cost of $913.70, with Victoria Police saying she’s expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic offences.
“She just seemed oblivious, or not wanting to engage with anybody, staring straight ahead,” one witness told 7News.
“My wife tried to say ‘Excuse me, excuse me,’ and she completely blanked and ignored us.”
The witness said she finally stopped at a Bottlemart, where she allegedly bought a bottle of vodka. Another witness followed her home, where police caught up with her.
A similar incident occurred in Orange County in the US state of California last year, where a woman was found driving down a highway with three wheels and her boot open.
A nearby motorist recorded the incident, documenting himself trying to get her attention, which she mistook for a wave.
The motorist told KTLA 5 that he and another driver moved in front of the woman to slow her down and direct her off the freeway.
Once he caught up to the Audi driver, he questioned her about what she was doing and why she was driving recklessly.
