Tesla has recorded its fifth consecutive monthly decline in Australian deliveries, with August proving to be a disappointing month for Model Y.
According to data published by the Electric Vehicle Council, Tesla delivered 2393 vehicles to Australian customers in August. That figure was down 27.68 per cent on the same month last year.
Every month this year from April onwards, Tesla deliveries have been down double digits on the corresponding month last year.
And though February and March saw double-digit increases year over year, overall Tesla deliveries in the first eight months of this year are down 15.3 per cent on the same period last year.

While in July it was the Model 3 that was dragging down Tesla deliveries, in August it was the Model Y doing just that.
Deliveries of the electric SUV were down 42.52 per cent on August 2023, while the Model 3 was up 6.83 per cent.
Tesla stopped supplying data to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) for use in its monthly VFACTS report from July, with these figures instead only viewable in the Electric Vehicle Council’s monthly report.
This data includes a breakdown by variant, which shows the base Model Y RWD is the brand’s best seller year-to-date with 10,251 examples delivered. It’s followed by the base Model 3 RWD at 9383 deliveries.
Last year was a tough act to follow for Tesla, as it sold 46,116 vehicles in Australia. That made 2023 the brand’s best year yet in our market, good enough to propel it to eighth place among all car brands from 16th position in 2022.
