Toyota Australia has launched a ‘Customer Service Exercise’ for its C-HR hybrid SUV, impacting 2348 examples which may experience the parking brake engaging when reversing.

    “When subject vehicles are towing (e.g. a trailer or bicycle rack), the Parking Support Brake (PKSB) system operates unintentionally when reverse gear is selected,” Toyota said in a notice published online. 

    “The PKSB software defaults to the ON state when reverse is selected.  This will result in the PKSB system activating the vehicle brakes when the shift position is moved into reverse.  This is caused by PKSB software logic.”

    The 2348 impacted examples of the Toyota C-HR were produced between May 2, 2023 and May 30, 2024.

    A range of model codes and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for impact examples have been attached here.

    Toyota has not yet classified the fault as a recall, as the carmaker is voluntarily offering to resolve the issue and is soon contacting owners.

    The carmaker says its service centres will fit a correction sticker to the vehicle owner’s manual and perform a software update to the Clearance Warning ECU on involved vehicles, which should take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
