Toyota Australia has recalled 40,499 examples of the Corolla Hybrid sedan and hatch, due to a fault which can result in drivers having to apply more brake pressure than normal.

“For involved vehicles, a brake actuator is equipped with a skid control Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which controls the hydraulic and regenerative brake systems,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.

“Due to the programming of the skid control ECU software, there is a possibility that the brake fluid pressure may not be controlled as designed in limited situations when the brake pedal is applied during cornering.

“Operators may temporarily experience a hard brake pedal with reduced braking force, increasing the brake stopping distance more than expected, and potentially increasing the risk of crash.”
